About Us
Regent Park Legacy
More than 90 years of accessible golf
Golfers have enjoyed our course since it first opened to the public in 1932.
Legend has it that legendary golf course designer James Braid designed Regent Park Golf Course. While we haven’t been able to confirm this fact, the course is expertly planned, with a layout that challenges all levels of golfer.
Until 2002, the golf course was operated by Bolton Metro. It has played host to an illustrious list of professional golfers, including Dennis Durnian, Derrick Cooper, and Andrew ‘chubby’ Chandler.
The golf course has always been incredibly popular with local golfers. Many of our members remember stories of players arriving in the early hours of a Saturday morning to place their ball into a shoot by the first tee, claiming a tee time early on Saturday afternoon!
A thriving Golf Centre
Regent Park Golf Course Ltd took over the course in 2002, with managing director Robin Day at the helm.
The goal was simple: invest into the facilities and don’t let go of the ‘pay and play’ model. Accessibility for local people was the heart of the plan.
The first major investment was the 20-bay floodlit driving range, which opened in 2003. Secondly, the clubhouse was completely refurbished and extended to increase its capacity. Changing facilities were also improved. The driving range was recently revamped, and now boasts Toptracer technology – giving world-class swing analysis and incredible VR games and challenges.
In 2007, there followed a golf course redesign by the world renowned Golf Course Architect Dave Thomas, removing four flood-prone holes. The new layout created the space to open a 9 hole Par 3 course and our much-loved footgolf course in 2012.
Most recently, a huge investment has been made into the Clubhouse which has been rebranded as No19. A firm favourite with golfers and none-golfers alike, No19 offers a truly stunning setting for weddings, birthdays, and other functions, as well as an irresistible spot for post-golf refreshments.
What’s next for Regent Park Golf Centre?
We love golf, and we want to share that passion with as many people as we can. Our golf course will always be the heart of the centre, but we have some exciting plans in place for new, unmissable facilities. An adventure golf course will provide a new way to enjoy golf, for the young and old, while further development of the No19 Clubhouse will add to the draw of Regent Park for the whole family. This course was built for the public, and all our developments have accessibility at heart. We offer a quality, challenging experience for the serious golfer, and a place for daily play and practice. We also work hard to create a welcoming environment for those who are new to the sport and the club. Our superb facilities, great service and beautiful setting are here for all to enjoy.
